Brian O'Neill Memorial Fund
In 2022, the Brian O’Neill Memorial Fund was created with this purpose:
To provide travel expenses for public service and judicial Fellows who would otherwise be unable to participate in teaching and training lawyers and judges in other countries to advance the rule of law.
Brian O’Neill was a Fellow of the College and served as a Regent. His efforts with the International Committee led to the collaboration of a teaching team of College Fellows and Pacific Judicial Council (PJC) members resulting in the first joint trial practice conference in the country of Palau in November 2015, with 11 Fellows participating. Since then, ACTL conferences partnering with the PJC have been conducted in Guam (2018 with 14 Fellows), Saipan (2020 with 12 Fellows), and most recently again in Palau (November of 2022 with 10 Fellows). The International Committee also presented a Civility Conference in British Virgin Islands in 2018 with 5 Fellows.
The International Committee’s Teaching Abroad subcommittee has also partnered with in-country organizations to present a highly successful NITA-type offering in Poland (March 2023 with 6 Fellows). Others conferences are planned for South Africa and Romania.
Judicial Fellows and Fellows working in public service may apply for funding to support their participation in these international programs. Please use the documents below, and contact the National Office with any questions.
