Harry D. Cornett, Jr.

Harry has served as chair of the Colleges Ohio State Committee and national chair of the Legal Ethics and Professionalism Committee. As an adjunct professor, he taught Legal Ethics & Professionalism at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

Harry has tried many civil and criminal cases to verdict before judges and juries across the United States. His trials in recent years have involved patents, trade secrets, contracts, director and officer liability, professional liability, products liability, and legal malpractice. In the last 20 years he has tried cases in California, Texas, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia and Ohio.

In the 1970s and 1980s Harry handled a high volume of insurance defense and medical malpractice cases and he tried over 100 jury trials to verdict in that time period. Those trials included many criminal cases. Beginning in 1987, as outside counsel for the FDIC and FSLIC, he led investigative and trial teams in cases against a number of directors and officers of failed financial institutions. Among his accomplishments in that role was a victory in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in which he argued and won a seminal case on director and officer liability and pre-judgment equitable remedies.

In the late 1980s Harry began to handle a wide variety of intellectual property cases. He tried his first patent case in the mid-90s and he began to work closely with patent lawyers. Intrigued by the technical challenges of patent cases, he went back to school at night, earned a degree in physics, and became a registered patent lawyer in 2009.

In 2019, Harry completed Northwestern Universitys Mediation Skills Training program. The intensive 40-hour program focuses on fundamental and practical techniques to successfully resolve disputes.
